One month ago we moved house. We moved from a town to a rural village and I honestly couldn’t be happier. Now don’t get me wrong we’re not in the middle of nowhere, round the corner is a Tesco metro, a cash machine and a few shops etc but being in such a pretty village is a dream that me and Ben have had for a while now and neither of us can quite believe we’ve managed to make the move. There’s so many amazing things about living where we do so here’s six reasons I wanted to live in a village.
one – the quiet
I’ve lived in some pretty noisy houses over the years. A flat that was on a development full of students, listening to parties and constant footsteps from upstairs to our last house that suffered from the usual noise transfer through walls from a terraced house. The big reason we chose this house and this location was because its detached and has no adjoining neighbours but also because the village itself is so quiet and peaceful. Even despite living right near a train station, sitting in the garden is so quiet and I actually love the sound of the trains going past. Its lovely.
two – neighbours who know your name
I know it must sound like such a cliche but we really wanted to live somewhere where we might actually get to know our neighbours. Where we used to live we had nice neighbours but we didn’t really get to know any of them that well. Within a day of moving we had been welcomed by so many neighbours, including cards and gifts. It honestly feels so nice to think we can build some real friendships with people.

three – open space
Anyone who knows me, knows my dogs are my babies and I’ll be honest our choice of house had as much to do with them as it did with us. The fact the village has a HUGE green to walk the dogs on, with plenty of space to chase the ball, trees so sniff and plants to widdle on, was a huge huge plus for us. It is literally one minute from our front door and is such a gorgeous space to wander in the evenings and so much cleaner than the recreation ground I used to walk the dogs on. Plus only 20 minutes drive away is the seaside too, so lots of open space around.
four – Community spirit.
Ok this is going to make me sound like a right old lady but I really liked the idea of living in a village and getting involved in community activities and my god does this village have a lot going on. There’s groups, events, meetings and even a big village show which I’m soooo gutted I’m away for but if you want to get involved there’s plenty to choose from. I love the idea of being part of a genuine community.

Five – Enjoying the cliches
Of course living in a village has so many cliches and I’m more than happy to partake in them. A pint in the local pub, shopping at a local butcher, saying hello to people in the street. We’ve already tried out the Sunday lunch in the pub and dinner at the local restaurant so ticking off the village bucket list has begun!!
Six – Put down roots
This is more of a long term reason for moving to a village but when we talked about where we would want to settle down it was always somewhere with a great school and a good place to have a family. Now I’m not in that place yet but buying this house was about thinking about our future and eventually if and when we do have kids I reckon a village like this will be a brilliant place for them to grow up.

I can’t wait to share more of the new house and village life on the blog but don’t worry my outfits won’t be going too countrified! I’m still a pink wall girl too.
