PLAIN PAINTED PUMPKINS

One of the simplest and easiest painted pumpkin designs for Halloween is the plain painted. I used Annie Sloan chalk paints and chose a palette of greys, blues and pink. You can see my full kit list and colours at the bottom of this post. These colours form the base for all the other 5 designs.

  • Start by painting the base of the pumpkin and once dry turn over and paint the top.
  • The paint I used was so good I only needed one coat of all except the white which needed two.
  • Use a soft brush or sponge on to avoid lines.
  • Leave the stalks unpainted for a rustic look.

GEOMETRIC PAINTED PUMPKINS

I love this Geometric Painted Pumpkin design which I spotted on Pinterest, its so chic and I love that the whole look is matt.

  • Use a contrasting paint colour with a tiny bit of water added and a thin brush to paint a geometric design.
  • Start at the top and work your way round.
  • Choose whatever shapes you want and don’t worry about being too neat it adds to the charm I think.

GOLD PAINTED PUMPKINS

Gold is a great colour for painting pumpkins as its rich and perfect for Autumn. I love trying out different ways of using gold paint and glitter too. This time I’ve painted the stems and added detail with a black marker too.

  • Try painting stripes in gold on alternating strips of the pumpkin for a simple design.
  • The small blue pumpkin is simply single brush strokes using gold paint and a small brush.
  • Apply glue to the stalk and some of the indents and sprinkle glitter on for a sparkly mini pumpkin.
  • For a more detailed pumpkin I’ve painted the bottom half of the pink pumpkin gold, added gold dots to the top half and defined the join with black marker in a wiggly line.

TEXT PAINTED PUMPKINS

Add text to your painted pumpkins with words like Trick, Treat, Happy Halloween or even BOO. This works really well for sets of pumpkins especially.

  • I free handed my text onto the pumpkin with a pencil but you could print out letters, cut them out and then trace the shape.
  • Fill the pencil design in with paint or for real simplicity use a black marker, which works great
  • Mix and match Text Painted Pumpkins with other painted pumpkin designs.
  • I added gold lines using the natural indents of the pumpkin and a thin brush. I also added dots to the charcoal pumpkin and circles in gold.
  • Add glue to the stems and gold glitter for the final touch.

ORNATE PAINTED PUMPKINS

Add an ornate design to your painted pumpkins with embellishments like stick on shapes, pearls or glitter. You can also paint ornate designs with the gold paint and a really thin brush.

  • I’ve added geometric mirrored triangles to my charcoal pumpkin and added more gold dots to finish off the ornate design.
  • Glue flat backed pearls of jewels to the top and sides of your pumpkin for a really 3d design.
  • I painted the base of my pink painted pumpkin with glue and then dipped it in the gold glitter.
  • For an ornate painted design I added scroll details to my small white pumpkin and a dot design to the blue pumpkin.

MARBLE PAINTED PUMPKIN

Marble is the most ornate and luxurious material there is and of course its the blogger fave so I had to create one as part of my painted pumpkin designs for Halloween.

  • Create a marble paint effect using your white and charcoal grey paint.
  • Mix a mid grey using your dark grey and white and sponge patches of this with white and charcoal grey patches too.
  • Use a wet sponge to blend the colours together to create a basic marble effect.
  • Use a thin brush and the charcoal grey and white and add dark and light veins.
  • Add letters and paint them with gold paint then glue. Sprinkle glitter on to them.
  • Add glitter to the stem to finish.
