So today is my birthday and up until a couple of weeks ago I wasn’t really in the mood to celebrate. As the date came looming closer I couldn’t help but feel down about the fact I was turning another year older. Add into this the countless tweets and blog posts I’ve seen from people stressing out that they’re turning 30 or god even worse turning 25!!
Today I am turning 34.
There I said it.
When I turned 30 I didn’t panic like a lot of people do as I was pretty happy about my life and where my future was heading. I had a wonderful boyfriend with whom marriage was definitely on the cards and we were looking for a house so I knew that was coming in the future too. It didn’t matter me that certain boxes weren’t ticked because I knew that more than likely they weren’t far off being so.

As the years passed I bought a house, I got engaged, I got a dog, then I got married, I started up my blog again after the wedding and I went on honeymoon. Quite a lot to happen in 4 years. And of course I had a few more birthdays.
So why did I feel so down about this birthday?
I love my blog I really do and I love being part of the blogging community, but for a long time now I’ve been struggling with the fact I’m not a 25 or god even 30 year old blogger. Its so easy to compare yourself to other people, its human nature and its why I’ve become more self conscious about getting older. There seems to be a lack of bloggers in this mid 30’s age range like me, or if they are out there they’re certainly not making themselves known and I’ll be honest neither was I till now.
Plus there’s the other big B issue! Babies!! I’m not ready in myself have children yet and neither is my other half but I can’t help feel a pressure of time when I see my age years clocking up. All this amounted to me being one very big party pooper when it came to my birthday this year.
But I’ve decided to change that.
Firstly I’ve decided to embrace the age bracket I’m in blog wise, play to my strengths and focus my blog on my style and my life. I’m building long term relationships with brands that I think reflect me and the kind of style I have and hopefully will appeal to a similar age bracket, as well as younger and older. Also accept the fact I’m not going to be wearing baby pink fluffy co-ords or tiny skin-tight bralets, but focus on what I like to wear and have fun with it. Life wise I’m focusing on the things I want to do right now and not worrying too about whats around the corner.
So will I be celebrating my birthday? Hell yeah and in style with one major shopping spree at Lakeside tonight and dinner at Yo Sushi. Plus a trip to an amazing 5 Star hotel in Egypt for a holiday. I can’t wait! Something tells me 34 is going to be a very good year.
